Fall is always a popular time of year for weddings because of its gorgeous changing colors, cooler temperatures, and endless design and aesthetic inspirations. No matter what kind of wedding venue you have, it’s helpful to plan for what kind of style of photos you want on your wedding day to make best use of the fall colors both inside and outside. With a venue like Darby House that boasts rolling fields and tree-lined drives, there are endless ways to get creative with photo ideas for both you as a couple, wedding parties, and with your families!

Indoor Fall Photo Ideas:

Cozy Fireplace Setting: Darby House has two separate woodburning fireplaces, one in the Racing Room and one in the Dining Room. The Racing Room fireplace is the perfect cozy backdrop for an indoor ceremony, or a blank slate for indoor family and wedding party portraits. The dining room fireplace, however, is right next to our indoor and outdoor bistro lights, which gives the room a warm glow that is perfect for late-night photos.

Racing Room Windows: Utilize the floor to ceiling windows in the Racing Room for bridal portraits, first look moments, or wedding party photos. The large windows are wonderful for pre-ceremony photos due to the sun hitting that side of the building in the afternoon, casting a golden glow over the room.

Foyer: The Foyer area at Darby House is another great option for indoor photos. This space has beautiful floor to ceiling windows if you are still wanting the pretty hues of the fall leaves outside in your background. The darker hues in the Foyer are also a great background for moodier bridal or couple’s portraits.

Getting Ready Suites: Our Getting Ready suites are the perfect neutral backdrops for indoor photos. The bright lights and white touches in the first suite are stunning for bridal portraits, while our second suite offers darker wood tones and leather chairs perfect for some groomsmen photos!

Outdoor Fall Photo Spots and Ideas:

Tree-Lined Lanes: Capture the vibrant colors of the fall season by using Darby House’s sprawling tree-lined roads as photo backdrops. The contrast of yellow, orange, and red leaves against a blue sky creates a stunning frame. The timeline of when the leaves change color is different every year, but it’s typical to see the bright oranges and red starting around the middle of October.

Grass Fields: Use the fields around Darby House with tall, golden grasses to add a romantic quality to your outdoor photos. These grassy fields around the property look particularly stunning during golden hour, just before sunset.

Big Darby Creek Waterfront: Darby House sits right on Big Darby Creek, which allows our couples to have beautiful waterfront options for their outdoor ceremonies. The waterside locations are especially pretty for photos due to the reflection of the fall colors in the water.

Waterside Terrace/Twinkle Lights:

The Waterside Terrace at the back of the building and the front loop by the Dining Room each have multiple trees strung up with golden twinkling lights. These lights are a beautiful backdrop for late-evening photos as they give off a warm, cozy glow.
